The main research is about: (1) weather, climate and health; (2) atmospheric radiation and health; (3) atmospheric environment and health; (4) health meteorology forecasting and services.
Area 1: Weather, Climate and Health. ¢ÙTo study meteorological elements that harm health and meteorological changes: to study formation and changes of extreme weather events and meteorological disasters such as high temperature, heat wave, cold snap, fog, strong wind, ¢ÚImpact of climate on the transmitting vector and related diseases: to study heat waves, cold waves, fog, gale and other extreme climate events and occurrence and evolution of meteorological disasters; to study the impact of climate change on the media (insect-borne, water-borne and air-borne) and occurrence of infectious disease and change of prevalence. To study climate effects on biological pathogens and the change on allergic diseases.¢ÛRelationship between weather, climate and disease: to study morbidity and mortality rate of temperature-related diseases caused by weather change, such as respiratory, cardiovascular and joint diseases.
Area 2: Atmospheric Radiation and Health. ¢ÙTo study change and evolution of atmospheric ultraviolet radiation distribution, ¢ÚThe effects of ultraviolet radiation on human health: analyze health effects caused by different bands of ultraviolet radiation
Area 3: Atmospheric Environment and Health. ¢ÙThe concentration and evolution of air pollutant that affect health: to study air pollutant concentrations of O3, NOX, SO2, VOCs and aerosals; analyze concentration, composition change and the reasons of atmospheric aerosols,¢Úhazards of air pollution on residents' health: to study the acute effects of atmospheric pollutants¡¯ short-term fluctuation on residents¡¯ health and their long-term impact. ¢ÛCarry on research to predict main atmospheric pollutants and ultraviolet radiation impact on health.
Area 4: Health Meteorology Forecasting and Services. ¢ÙTo carry out forecast of disease occurrence and aggravation and the responding prevention service and benefit assessment, based on short-term weather forecasts.¢ÚTo carry out disease prediction service and benefit assessment based on monthly, quarterly and annually climate prediction. ¢ÛTo study the probable climate change in east China under global warming condition, and to assess the probability of food shortage and insect-borne infectious diseases caused by long-term change of temperature, precipitation and other conditions. ¢ÜTo evaluate the urban environment. Changes of urban heat islands and vegetative cover, urban living environment, environmental quality, infrastructure and public service facilities are evaluated to access urban environment of human settlement from viewpoint of health.
